| Amateur League squad report - season XI (15.1.2005) |
AML right before playoffs |
}Silence{
Season MVP: PlasmaKitty 9:15
Friendly MVPs: PlasmaKitty (5:1)
Recap: With victory over DeepBlue and a huge upset over Liquid Inc., }Silence{ was moderately succesful for a non-SVS squad. They got badly outplayed in all their other matches, though, and noshowed their last three matches, so it looks like this squad was only around for one season like all too many squads in the past. It's too bad that Premier usually loses squads like this, simply because our playerbase isn't that big and new blood is important for the league's future.
What needs to change for season 12?: }Silence{ pretty much noshowed out, so we might not be seeing them next season.
7rominence
Season MVP: omegared 19:17
Friendly MVPs: Dissertation (6:2)silly_n00b (4:0) Omegared (5:2)
Recap: 7rominence's third season in AML was slightly better than their second, in which they recorded a 4-10. Only slightly, because they got two forfeit victories. They played a couple of decent games, but were mostly outplayed by stronger squads and didn't prove to be a real challenge for any of the top squads in Balder division. Dissertation, Pers, silly_n00b and Omegared is a decent starting lineup, but they really don't have the talent to really challenge for a playoff spot unless they improve a whole lot.
What needs to change for season 12?: 7rominence has been a lower-rung AML squad for three seasons and they really haven't improved much during this season. If they'd want to seriously challenge for a playoff spot, they'd either need a big boost in teamwork and activity or a couple of big recruits.
Anarchists
Season MVP: wasteofammo 11:14
Friendly MVPs: Shadowslayer (4:0, 5:1) G_BoNe (8:2)nismo 3:0
Recap: Anarchists did very good on their first season in AML. They came quite close to reaching the playoffs, but were eventually too weak to beat the strong CtrlShift squad in the last seeding round. Still, they had a good first season. G_BoNe and Shadowslayer were the squad's top players and they got decent support from wasteofammo and nismo. The squad played some good matches, for example their match against us, StarFire Elite, only losing 5-7 and they were up for quite a while in the match.
What needs to change for season 12?: Anarchists need to keep improving. They have to find a way to play a solid game for 45 minutes to be able to keep matches against the top teams closer. They got three forfeit wins during the season - next season they might not get 'em. Wasty also needs to play more to strenghten the squad's lineup.
BALLISTICS
Season MVP: Thrull 17:17
Friendly MVPs: NONE
Recap: BALLISTICS entered AML on round four as a replacement squad. They were given strict rules about who they could field for their AML matches. The squad is, of course, playing in the IML finals against The Nine and they ended up creating a lot of controversy on the forums after subbing demerol in against Victimise in their last match. In the end Mizerie decided to have BALLISTICS forfeit all their matches. I really think that this season in AML was beneficial for both AML and BALLISTICS as the squad could spread out their playing time by fielding their bench in AML.
What needs to change for season 12?: Well, BALLISTICS will be playing IML/Pro, so I don't think I have to comment here.
BlackNike
Season MVP: Joe Bane 33:15
Friendly MVPs: ManDude (3:1, 6:1, 5:2, 4:1)A.W.O.L (2:0, 5:2)Joe Bane (4:0)Drue. (3:1)Frowzy (2:0)
Recap: BlackNike split in the middle of the season to form ShitFuck. That didn't really weaken the squad, as they still have a roster with active pilots and the current lineup doesn't really have any weak links. BlackNike put up a good fight in the playoffs, but they were eliminated by a stronger squad, ElementalForces were clearly better in the quarter finals.
What needs to change for season 12?: BlackNike needs to regroup and strongly improve on activity. They could've used a couple of stronger subs in the playoffs.
Blasphemy
Season MVP: Kill O Matic 10:10
Friendly MVPs: Kill O Matic (5:2)WarCraft (5:2)Sagum (3:1)
Recap: Before the season began I expected Blasphemy to be a decent squad in the middle of the table or maybe even slightly above the playoff line. Nope. They did a 3-8 regular season with very little good matches except for the huge 11-10 upset over DAMN_Yankees. Blasphemy could've done a lot better with the pilots they have, but this season just wasn't as good as the seasons before they left AML last time.
What needs to change for season 12?: I hear that Blasphemy might not return next season and that's a shame. They could've been a decent contender with a little improvement.
CHAOS*ZONE
Season MVP: WarEngine 8:31
Friendly MVPs: G.U.S. (3:0)
Recap: CHAOS*ZONE had a tough first season in AML. Their only real win was recorded against }Silence{, who showed three to the match. Overall CHAOS*ZONE had a very hard time scoring kills - if your top killer only has eight kills recorded, you're going to have trouble winning matches. Still, the squad is improving, although slowly. In a league with such a steep learning curve, it often takes squads several seasons to start properly challenging older, more experienced squads. Hopefully CHAOS*ZONE can use this season as a learning process and keep on improving.
What needs to change for season 12?: Practice is key. A veteran player who could lead the squad's gameplay would be a good thing.
CRIPS
Season MVP: bukkwild 49:23
Friendly MVPs: bukkwild (4:0, 6:1, 4:1, 6:2, 7:1, 5:0)macksks (7:2)White America (6:1)
Recap: For a squad which only has a roster of eight pilots (and in fact, only five of them actually played), CRIPS had a good season. Beating NightBane has been very hard this season and CRIPS is one of the few squads which have done it. Bukkwild is, of course, the carrying force of the squad, but White America and macksks played decent seasons too. CRIPS is a close-knit group that's been around for a long time with only a little success. Still, they keep showing week after week and playing decent matches every now and then. That's respectable.
What needs to change for season 12?: Well, they really need a fourth good player to be able to challenge any bigger squads on a regular basis. 64 IMPALA SS and Harry Dunn have been easy targets for their opponents and need to improve.
CtrlShift
Season MVP: A foul wind 26:10
Friendly MVPs: Big Bacon Classic (7:1, 9:1, 2:0, 5:2, 8:1, 5:2)A foul wind (5:1)Farflame (4:1)Soul Assassin (3:0)Dabomb(Milad) (4:2)
Recap: At times it seemed like CtrlShift was an unstoppable team which could steamroll over any squad in AML - and then they took a 3-12-dive against ElementalForces. After that match they've seemed slightly shaky by losing four of their last six matches. Maybe they'll get back in form for the playoffs? Secret gave them a run for their money in playoff round one, but CtrlShift managed to sneak by a 8-7 win. NightBane eliminated CtrlShift with a 4-6 overtime victory in the quarter finals, so their elimination was a close one.
What needs to change for season 12?: CtrlShift is going to IML. They definitely have the roster to be a competitive squad there too.
DAMN_Yankees
Season MVP: Moderation 42:15
Friendly MVPs: Moderation (2:0, 5:1, 5:0)Venice Beach (7:1, 4:0)Zombie (6:0, 4:0)maple leaf (4:0)DINKY 1 (3:1)
Recap: Such controversy. This season was a strange one for the old squad. Everyone involved in AML already knows about the Venice Beach -scenario, so I won't go in to that. Yankees could still be a contender, but they were eliminated in the seeding rounds with losses against Disavowed and CRIPS. Zombie and Moderation could've carried them pretty deep in the playoffs.
What needs to change for season 12?: It remains to be seen whether DAMN_Yankees return to AML or not - it would be sad to see a long-lasting squad like this disembark like this.
DeepBlue
Season MVP: 89Sweaper 4:6
Friendly MVPs: None
Recap: Anyone still remember the uproar on the AML forum when everyone saw hedcase8, Miner and Astrox on the DeepBlue roster before the season began? Seems like it was years ago. DeepBlue only scored a single win this season and it was a forfeit one against Zeta-Squadron. Most of the time they got heavily outplayed. It kind of saddens me to have seen 89Sweaper leave StarFire Elite to join DeepBlue.
What needs to change for season 12?: They noshowed in rounds 10 and 11, but were allowed to play on round 12 against Oracle X.. and finally noshowed on round 13. Will the AML staff allow them to return if they decide to ask for it?
Disavowed
Season MVP: B|aze 24:7
Friendly MVPs: B|aze (3:0, 4:0, 5:2)Kurtz (3:0, 3:1, 2:0)Zeeeeeeee (4:0)
Recap: Disavowed decent season. I don't think anyone expected them to take this season seriously enough to really challenge for the championship - they have a roster which would make them one of the strongest squads in the championship race. I don't think any squad could challenge a lineup consisting of Tragon, MD, Kurtz and Zeeeeee in top form, not to mention the subs they could field in Mailliw, B|aze and Gold. Losing to Warlords in playoff round one wasn't a big choke, as Warlords have been improving throughout the season and can very well be considered a black horse in the playoffs. Disavowed dispatched all weaker opponents, but had a hard time coping with the top rung ones this season.
What needs to change for season 12?: Was it scheduling that eliminated Disavowed? I don't think so. They'll be back next season and they'll be a contender depending on the level of commitment they put in..
ElementalForces
Season MVP: Iron Hands 37:15
Friendly MVPs: Iron Hands (2:1, 3:1, 5:1, 6:2)Tricho (3:0, 4:0, 3:0)Vezuvan (6:1)Aramen (4:0)SkyOne (4:0)vT (3:0)
Recap: In ElementalForces we have a squad that's been very consistant throughout the season. Some of their matches have been very close, but most of the time they've managed to sneak out with the W. NightBane has been the squad with which they've had most trouble with. They've faced three times already and it wouldn't be too suprising to see them face off once more. The squad has a good set of pilots out of which to choose from - Iron Hands, Empower, Aramen and Tricho have been very good so far and they have a couple of trustworthy subs on the bench too. ElementalForces might not win the championship, but they've played a solid season. We can expect them back in top form for next season too.
What needs to change for season 12?: They were so close - they'll definitely be a big contender next season. A couple of good recruits and they'll be well on the way.
Fly-NDeath
Season MVP: ZDeathX 40:23
Friendly MVPs: ZDeathX (3:0, 5:0, 4:1, 4:0, 4:1, 5:1, 4:2, 8:2, 3:2)
Recap: I guess it's safe to say that Fly-NDeath has been extremely dependant on ZDeathX's performance. He's getting decent backup from the others, but Fly-NDeath lives or dies along with him. The squad has seemed slightly shaky at times and they've escaped with many close victories. They've had difficulties against the top squads like Llamasery and NightBane, but have had a good season neverthless. In the end of the quarter finals StarFire Elite was stronger than Fly-NDeath and advanced to the semi finals.
What needs to change for season 12?: Keeping ZDeathX would be extremely important as he's a player a lineup can be built on. The other starters should keep improving and maybe Fly-NDeath'll be a real contender next season.
Liquid Inc.
Season MVP: Faid 37:20
Friendly MVPs: Faid (3:0, 3:2, 3:1, 9:0, 7:1)Proxy (5:3)
Recap: Liquid Inc. was one of the more disappointing squads this season. They used to be a playoff squad, but had a hard time this time around. They were almost booted from league due to noshows in preseason and took several close losses throughout the season. Their best matches were against Oracle X and Wisdom Academy, but the losses against }Silence{ and Zeta-Squadron made the season worse.
What needs to change for season 12?: Hopefully Liquid Inc's going to return next season with renewed strenght. They've been around for quite a while, they have the roster to challenge any squad and can definitely be a contender. Pension needs to get back to the form he had a couple of seasons back - he underachieved this season. A couple of decent recruits could boost activity.
Llamasery
Season MVP (so far): Perceptor 42:17
Friendly MVPs: Perceptor (2:1, 6:0, 6:2, 7:2, 4:0, 2:1)morphine (3:0, 2:0, 4:0)Lord Schnitzel (3:0)
Recap: Wow. I knew Llamasery was going to be a playoff in the beginning of the season, but they've actually become one of the best squads in AML. They've already beaten us twice this season, which is quite rare. It's amazing that a squad with a roster of only nine players has been playing so well throughout the season with so few chokes. They are quite dependant on the performances of their top players, but so far they've been very succesful. They are definitely one of the top championship contenders - we'll see how far they'll go in a couple of weeks.
What needs to change for season 12?: Let's see how far they advance in the playoffs first.
NightBane
Season MVP: DarkDisparage 20:12
Friendly MVPs: DarkDisparage (2:0, 5:1, 3:0, 4:2)Lateralus (3:0, 2:0, 2:0)Peanut (3:0, 2:0)Cashew (4:1)twista (4:1)Dark Horse (3:0)
Recap: NightBane has been an AML playoff squad for quite a while now. Sometimes with aliases, like the old Abnocto Pestis. Now they're definitely one of the top squads. The squad has been very solid throughout the season - they've only played two bad matches, against Oracle X and CRIPS. The squad's got a large pool of good pilots to choose from - Peanut, DarkDisparage, Lateralus, Time Bomb and the list goes on. Wouldn't have been a big suprise if we had seen NightBane in the finals this season. StarFire Elite was only slightly better as they advanced to the finals.
What needs to change for season 12?: NightBane was one of the strongest squads this season and they'll most likely be sitting on the top of the AML table next season too.
Oracle X
Season MVP: DMD 22:9
Friendly MVPs: DMD (3:0, 3:1, 7:1)Recreance (2:0, 6:3)StonedStupid (2:0, 3:1)Myrer (3:0)
Recap: A team which can field a lineup consisting of StonedStupid, DMD, Reacrance and chaoticsky only does a 6-6 in regular season is quite disappointing. They started out really well by beating Warlords and NightBane early in the season - two playoff squads. After that they took some close losses against squads like BlackNike, CRIPS and CtrlShift. And finally, their close loss to Anarchists in seeding rounds took the squad out of the playoffs. Overall they were a decent squad this season, but I think they could've achieved a little more with the pilots they had on hand. Wasn't a bad season, though.
What needs to change for season 12?: If Oracle X doesn't lose too many pilots and do some decent recruiting, they should be a playoff squad next season. Too bad it seems like they won't.
Secret
Season MVP: Trash-killer 35:24
Friendly MVPs: Tursiops (4:1, 7:1, 5:1, 3:0)Crayzee (3:0)Trash-killer (3:1)
Recap: Secret had a rollercoaster season. They were the only squad capable on beating Llamasery in regular season and took some good victories over Disavowed, Fly-NDeath and BlackNike. Secret have a good roster and Tursiops and Trash-killer were brilliant at times. With some backup from Tjatte and cose, they were able to play some good matches. Too bad Nerve Impulse was inactive, he could've been a real asset. The squad lost their last three matches as they got outplayed by Llamasery and BlackNike in seeding rounds. In the playoffs they almost made a comeback from being down 4-8 against CtrlShift after they got the first KO, but only got to seven points before the buzzer went off. Still, a good season for Secret.
What needs to change for season 12?: Secret is one of the oldest squads remaining and they don't really need to change much. A trustworthy sub or two could really help since the top four can't always show.
ShitFuck
Season MVP: MRBots 10:12
Friendly MVPs: CtrlShift (3:0)MRBots (5:3)
Recap: For a squad which was assembled in such a short notice, ShitFuck have nothing to be ashamed of. They did pretty much noshow out of league in the end and that really isn't the best addition to the ShitFuck-legacy, but the odds were stacked heavily against them.
What needs to change for season 12?: I don't expect ShitFuck to make a comeback in season twelve.
StarFire Elite
Season MVP (so far): Divine 30:9
Friendly MVPs: Divine (4:1, 3:0, 6:0, 6:2)Mauler (5:1, 3:0)scubie (6:0)MfA (5:0)Raspi (4:1)Banner (4:2)The Deist- (3:2)
Recap: Been a fun season so far. We'll have to wait and see if we can beat Fly-NDeath tomorrow. Big props to Solar Hydro for getting us this far.
What needs to change for season 12?: Let's see how far we advance in the playoffs first.
TEAM HOCKEY ZONE
Season MVP: Lawn Dwarf 15:17
Friendly MVPs: Lawn Dwarf (5:3)UKillMe (2:1)
Recap: A long season's now over for TEAM HOCKEY ZONE. We didn't really expect them to be a championship contender, but the 2-2 preseason was slightly promising. The squad finished the season with a 1-10 record and their only win was a forfeit from BALLISTICS. The positive thing is that they were able to keep matches close against most squads. Lawn Dwarf was practicing very actively early in the season and he was the squad's top player. Got very little support, though, only UKillMe was helping out.
What needs to change for season 12?: They noshowed four matches along the season including two seeding rounds. I hope THZ'll return because their matches are always fast paced and fun to spectate. A couple of recruits could help the squad a lot.
Victimise
Season MVP: Leaky 21:16
Friendly MVPs: Leaky (4:1, 7:0, 4:0)ampheres (2:0, 3:0)
Recap: Victimise started the season with five losses from their first six matches, only beating Blasphemy - they did face some tough squads. After that they began the chase for a playoff spot, upsetting Secret 9-7 and managed to score five wins in their last six regular season matches, only taking a loss against StarFire Elite. In their three seeding round matches a 2-1 record was achieved, although Oracle X might have beaten them if they hadn't noshowed. Neverthless Victimise's season ended on a positive note. Leaky was the squad's top player and he got good support from ampheres. They could've won one or two more if Geneva was active and in top form.
What needs to change for season 12?: Victimise improved along the season. If they can keep up the heat they've collected, they could very well be competing for a playoff spot next season. An active recruit or two to broaden the lineup might be helpful too.
Warlords
Season MVP: Mizerie 32:17
Friendly MVPs: Mizerie (5:0, 5:0, 4:1, 5:0)North Star (4:0)Taffee (4:0)Mission (2:0)ZoAnimus (2:0)
Recap: Warlords is now the official dark horse of the playoffs. A win over Disavowed in the playoffs is a huge win and they've won six of their last seven matches. In fact, Warlords have been flying "under the radar" and they've been very good throughout the season, although they've been outplayed by some squads, they've collected a notable set of victories. If Warlords can upset Llamasery, anything is possible. On paper they might not seem that strong, but did anyone really expect them to beat CtrlShift TWICE during the season? Llamasery beat Warlords with a 6-8 score, so this season can be remembered as the season Warlords returned to top AML level.
What needs to change for season 12?: Warlords have got a good bunch of pilots together. Hopefully they won't lose too many this time around and can keep improving for next season.
Wisdom Academy
Season MVP: Eye Contact 33:19
Friendly MVPs: Eye Contact (6:2, 5:1, 4:0, 3:1)A Zen Master (6:1)Dark Solstice (5:1)Markypoo (2:1)
Recap: Wisdom Academy is a squad I'm glad we didn't face this season. The reason for that is their unpredictabilty. They can put up a very good showing one week and completely fall apart the next. Aleksandra, who I thought would be their strongest, had a very lackluster season, often being the weak link in the squad's lineup. Eye Contact and A Zen Master played good seasons, but the squad got often outplayed by their opponents.
What needs to change for season 12?: Aleksandra needs to improve and the squad could use a strong fourth along with a couple of subs.
Zeta-Squadron
Season MVP: d i g i 19:16
Friendly MVPs: d i g i (4:0, 3:1, 3:1)demon (4:0)
Recap: A squad that was the runner-up of season four of AML returned to the league for this season with a little less success. They looked quite solid in preseason, winning three of their four matches with The Tri Guy leading the way. The season began and Zetas upset CtrlShift. After that things started going downhill. They noshowed against DeepBlue and lost to ElementalForces. The Tri Guy wasn't around anymore and only d i g i and Demon were able to play decent matches week in and week out. In the last five matches of the season, Zeta showed two once, three once and completely noshowed in all of their seeding round matches. They looked quite good early on, but the two 0-12 losses to Oracle X and Warlords in consecutive weeks destroyed all the heat they had.
What needs to change for season 12?: If Zeta-Squadron returns next season, they'll definitely need Tritoch active and in top form. The squad didn't really live up to it's potential this season. It does seem like they won't be returning.
